How To Make Your Tires Last Longer

car tire driving on water

In order to extend the average tire life, you will need to know how to make your tires last longer by taking certain precautions. Having them checked periodically is important, of course, but there are other things you can do to keep them in top shape on the Granger roads. Jordan Ford explains the best ways to maintain your tires in this guide!

Average Life of Car Tires

The average life of car tires depends largely on mileage as well as where and how you drive in the Mishawaka area and beyond. If you drive the typical estimated mileage of 12,000 to 15,000 miles each year, then tire tread life is usually three to four years. If you drive less than that, of course, your tires will likely last much longer. Make sure to check your tire tread depth frequently to determine when replacements are necessary. Additionally, the following factors influence average tire life:

  • Heat
  • Storage
  • Conditions of use

Tire Care Tips

Aside from installing long life tires, South Bend drivers can take the following steps to enhance the lifespan of their tires:

  • Check tire air pressure: On a monthly basis, check that the air pressure of your tires is on point. They may lose more pressure during Osceola winters and gain more during the summer, so keeping track will certainly help them stay at the appropriate level.
  • Rotate your tires: About every 5,000 miles bring your vehicle into the Jordan Ford Service Department for a tire rotation. This is especially critical for models with front-wheel drive, as they promote very uneven wear among the tires.
  • Balance your wheels: Wheel balancing is just as important as tire rotation. If more weight is distributed to one wheel than another, the tires will experience uneven wear.
  • Check alignment: Twice a year, have your vehicle’s alignment checked. Misaligned wheels will cause much quicker wear on the tires. If you experience your steering wheel shaking, it may be a sign that your wheels are misaligned, so bring your car in as necessary.
